Editorial governance

How the lodge's published work is overseen — the roles that read, decide, and keep the record. The lodge appoints those who hold them; the current roster is being confirmed.

ProvisionalThe editorial roster is pending confirmation by the lodge. The roles below are defined; the names that fill them will be published once appointed.

01

Editorial roles are appointed by the lodge

The lodge's published work is overseen by brethren the lodge appoints to defined roles. Authority here rests with the lodge and its Grand Lodge charter; the roles below describe how that authority is exercised over the Transactions and the archive, not a standing separate from the lodge itself.

Naming the people who hold these roles waits on the lodge's confirmation, so that this page records appointments rather than assumptions.

02

The roles

Four roles carry the editorial work:

  1. aEditorTriages submissions, assigns reviewers, requests revisions, and reaches the decision to accept, decline, or publish a paper into the Transactions.
  2. bReviewerReads papers assigned to them and reports a recommendation with reasons, on the standards set out in the peer-review policy.
  3. cSecretary / RecordsKeeps the lodge's records, confirms members' standing, and directs correspondence — including corrections and rights questions — to the right hands.
  4. dOfficersThe lodge's elected and appointed officers, who govern the lodge and schedule accepted work into its communications.

03

How decisions are made

A submission travels a recorded path from offer to decision, and every step is journaled — visible to the author and accountable within the lodge. The editor decides on the strength of the reviewers' reports; the lodge governs the whole through its officers. The peer-review and submission policies set out the standards those decisions answer to.

The standards behind the work

How papers are read, and how they are offered, are set out in the lodge's policies.

The doctrine of Anniversary Lodge of Research No. 175 — a research lodge under the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire. Nothing here claims authority beyond the lodge's research purpose.
